“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favour has come” (Luke 4:18, 19).
Lowly an old-fashioned word that means humble, or low in status or importance. It’s used to describe a person or a situation that is not very powerful or rich or proud. Mary described herself as lowly. She didn’t think she was a very important person, yet she was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. What a surprise!
